All unstructured data is stored in Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Solution); a simple storage service that offers a highly-scalable, reliable, secure and low-latency data storage infrastructure. Amazon S3 is secure by default, delivering 4 four integrated mechanisms for controlling access to Amazon S3 resources:
- Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies, which enables HomeTome to create and manage multiple users and distinct security profiles under a single AWS storage infrastructure. Each user has access to only their data.
- Bucket policies define rules which apply broadly across all requests to the Amazon S3 data resources, such as restricting access privileges based on application profile, type of request, location of the requester and type of requester (application profile).
- Access Control Lists (ACLs) enable HomeTome to control access to individual files by assigning read, write and control privileges between individual file and user (the file owner).
- Query string authentication enables HomeTome to limit access to a particular file via its access URL. An access URL may be one-time valid or may be valid for a short period of time. The HomeTome app works with these limits to enable only users with privileges to access files based on the additional security of a URL lock and URL timer.
